A TUI Airlines UK Boeing 737-800 encountered an engine issue today, resulting in the right-hand CFM-56 engine being shut down mid-flight. The TUI Boeing 737-800 with registration G-FDZR was operating positioning flight BY928P to Arrecife, Canaries, Spain when the incident occurred.
The aircraft departed Birmingham without issue and began flying towards the Canaries. While cruising at 41,000 feet approximately 110nm west-southwest of Faro, Portugal, the right-hand engine encountered difficulties and had to be shut down.
The crew notified Air Traffic Control and the decision was made to divert to Faro. 40 minutes after shutting down the right-hand engine, the aircraft landed without difficulty on Faro’s runway 10.
The aircraft will be inspected and any appropriate maintenance required will be undertaken in Faro, before the Boeing 737-800 with registration G-FDZR returns to service with TUI UK.
