Air Canada Boeing 787 C-FNOH Altitude Issue

An Air Canada Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner descended below the safe altitude on ILS intercept while approaching Hong Kong, China.

The Air Canada Boeing 787-9 with registration C-FNOH was operating flight AC2287 from Vancouver, Canada to Hong Kong, when the incident took place.

The Air Canada 787 was cleared for the ILS approach to runway 25L, the aircraft overflew waypoint LOTUS and was handed over to the tower. An approach controller observed the Air Canada jet overshooting the localizer at 3,900 feet, with the minimum sector altitude being 4,300 feet.

Hong Kong approach issued a terrain warning to the aircraft, the flight crew corrected their flight path and subsequently the Boeing 787-9 continued for a safe landing on runway 25L.
